Midwestern Transplant Presents: The Legend of Big Butter Jesus

Midwestern Transplant Presents: The Legend of Big Butter Jesus by L.M. Zoller. Photo of a booklet zine printed on yellow paper. There are black and white cutouts of a long stick of butter, the arms of the King of Kings status, and a lightening bolt.

Midwestern Transplant Presents: The Legend of Big Butter Jesus is the true story of Ohio’s most iconic statue. Experience the legend of “King of Kings,” better known as “Touchdown Jesus,” “Big Butter Jesus,” or “Drowning Jesus,” as written and lovingly illustrated by a queer Ohioan.

This zine was risograph-printed by Paper Press Punch in Seattle, WA. 6 pages of illustrations, 8 pages total (excluding covers).

This zine is a fucking gem. Buy one for the Hoosier or Buckeye in ur life.

As someone who is fascinated by American folklore, I love this minicomic zine. Not only is it well-written and drawn in a cool visual style, but the research put into it is also quite interesting. I especially appreciate how the artist’s life experiences color the narrative of a larger-than-life slice of Midwestern culture. This zine took me on a journey, and I had a lot of fun along the way!
